Review and Photos by Rich ClarkÂ
This model remains popular with hot-rodders of all ages of today, young, old and far in between. The model B’s bring endless possibilities with the various V-8 engines and updated suspensions. This Classic Cruiser Series kit features a choice of either a full fendered street rod body or a high-boy street rod style look. The kit also features the 5 spoke wheels, a removable hood to display the Ford 302 engine, soft blackwall tires, very crisp and clean chrome plated parts along with decals that offer optional custom graphics of your choosing. I decided to leave out the hood side panels to go with the style I was after for the street rod look
Fig 001) For the Modeler: This kit leaves you with endless possibilities for custom ideas. Not to take away from what I have said above, for personal choice, I have decided to do a few minor changes to help give this kit a little more character. I have decided to do a tutone paint scheme, wired the engine and substituted some custom wheels. There are also some fit issues that need to be addressed. While I didn’t come across any flash issues, I did find some mold lines along both sides of the trunk area and just below the A-pillars. A little sanding in those areas with 800 grit sandpaper took care of that with ease.
Fig 002) One issue I found with this kit was one of fitting and lining up the headers onto the block. If you don’t line these headers up right after you glue them in place, it will be a real pain. Please be sure to set the headers right, just before the glue cures, giving yourself a little play for the final fit. Speaking of glue – I used Extreme Power (thick) instant adhesive for the major assembly of the build and Testor’s clear parts cement was used along with a little dab of the adhesive glue to apply the windows.
Fig 003) The chassis and suspension went together rather well, had no real issues at all. I painted the exhaust with the Testors enamel chrome. This adds a pretty nice touch. Â
Fig 004) In this photo, I have decide to add a pre-wired distributor, to help give a nice touch. I also painted the valve-covers body color as well.
Fig 005)Â I chose to add more changes to the appearance of this kit. I went with the spoke wire rims that came from the Revell 32 Ford Highboy (kit # 7625) and a set of wide white wall tires from Modelhaus (part # T-190). I only came across some minor flashing that was located in the inner wheels. I just scraped off the excess and the inner and outer rims just popped right in with ease.
Fig 006) I used two colors of primer for this build. I used Duplicolor gray primer below the body line and white primer above the body line. By doing so, the colors that I decided to go with, went on much better with no issues. I added bare metal foil to the side trim to bring out the separation of the colors some more. With these few added touches, I feel I was able to give this kit the look and appearance I was after. The above color is from a 2004 GM Cadillac color called WHITE DIAMOND (code # E12346586) and the lower color is from a 2011 Dodge Charger color called MANGO TANGO (code #E05163549AA).
The other issue that is easily corrected is the fit of the grille shell onto the front part of the chassis. On the grille shell you will notice the space between the 2 insert points and the shell; this space will need to be wider in order to fit onto the chassis. By doing so, you will need a small narrow file to sand away toward the shell in order to widen that space. Be sure to test fit as you go along. When you reach that point, the shell should just fit right into the slots on the chassis with ease.
Fig 999) This kit went together very well. It was a great kit choice to do my first review: A great looking deuce for today’s generation!!

Rich Clark
