 Marty: “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Doc, uh… Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?”

Doc: “Yes, the way I see it, if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?

The DeLorean time machine is a fictional automobile-based time travel device featured in the Back to the Future trilogy. In the feature film series, Dr. Emmett Brown builds a time machine from a DeLorean DMC-12 with the intent of gaining insights into history and the future but instead winds up using it to travel across 130 years of Hill Valley history (from 1885 to 2015) with Marty McFly, undoing the negative effects of time travel. In the first film, the 1.21 gigawatts are supplied by a plutonium-powered nuclear reactor. At the end of the first film, and for the remainder of the trilogy, the plutonium nuclear reactor is replaced by a “Mr. Fusion” Home Energy Reactor. The “Mr. Fusion” device apparently converts household waste into electrical power.

Doc: “Mr. Fusion powers the time circuits and the flux capacitor. But the internal combustion engine runs on ordinary gasoline; it always has. There’s not going to be a gas station around here until sometime in the next century. Without gasoline, we can’t get the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour.”

Marty: “So what’ll we do?”

In the third film we find out the DeLorean still needs GASOLINE, and in 1885 there is none. So to get the Time Machine up to 88mph yet another conversion is made to the car. Using train track style wheels the car is pushed on the track by a steam engine. This is the final version of the car as it is destroyed soon after.

 

 

For the Modeler: This review covers the Snap-It kit # POL932 from Polar Lights/Round2 of the Time Machine Mark IV from the Back to the Future III movie. The kit is 1/25 scale and listed as a Skill Level 2 although it is a Snap Together kit, but, the kit requires paint. The model includes about 60 parts molded in Gray, Clear, Chrome, Brushed Steel and Metal axles. This is a Re-Release (Re-Pop), SORT-OF, as it was released in the original movie version earlier and now as seen in the final movie. Polar Lights has updated the moldings to include a “Brushed Steel” looking body that more accurately depicts the Stainless Steel body. As with the previous versions this one includes the original Plutonium Reactor as well as the Lightening Rod and “Mr. Fusion”. So in effect you can replicate multiple versions of the car with this one kit. The train tires are all that is included but a simple tire swap for other styles can be done. The build is simplistic but painting is very tedious and detail specific. Go to the internet and download reference photos to give you a better idea as to how to properly paint it. The only decals are the license plates in the OUTATIME and BAR CODE versions. There are both decals and stickers of these in the kit. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7”, Width: 3”, Height: 2-1/4”. The included stand is: Length: 7-3/4”, Width: 3-3/4”.

The Munsters Monster Truck 1:25 Scale AMT Model Kit #863 Review

 The Munsters was a 1960’s American family television sitcom depicting the home life of a family of monsters. It starred Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster and Yvonne De Carlo as his wife, Lily Munster. The series was a satire of both traditional monster movies and popular family entertainment of the era, such as Leave It to Beaver. It ran concurrently with The Addams Family. Although the Addams family were well-to-do, the Munsters were a more blue-collar family. The series aired at night once a week in black-and-white on the CBS Television Network from September 24, 1964 to May 12, 1966, for 70 episodes.

TV’s most ghoulish and fun family have got themselves a “Munster Truck!” This Chevy 4×4 monster truck is a car-crushing classic. It features a big blown motor and super-sized tires. AMT has created the custom “Monster” Truck depicting the Munsters using the very popular USA-1 truck that represents the second and most notable version of Everett Jasmer’s series of USA-1 Monster Trucks. It was the first National Champion of Monster Truck racing, during the yearlong TNT Motorsports National Points Championship Series of 1988.

For the Modeler: This review covers the Round2 release of the Munsters Chevy Monster Truck under the AMT brand. This is Kit #A863 which is 1/25 scale and a Skill Level 2 for the moderate builder as it requires paint and glue for assembly. This kit is a Re-release (Re-Pop) of the USA-1 Monster truck but with all new Munsters themed graphics. There are roughly 100 parts molded in Black, Chrome, Clear and Clear Red and included Vinyl tires. This is a full frame traditional style truck, not the roll cage super-truck that is now used in the Monster Truck competitions. The kit has a fully detailed motor that is quite easy to wire and add additional details to. There is a full chassis with the monster style suspension and drivetrain. The interior is a typical tub and looks more like a stock interior than race truck. The body is split with the cab and bed being separate units. The tires are a hollow soft rubber compound and are typical of the monster truck tires seen in the majority of kits. The decals have a crisp color register and look good with rich color depth. Overall dimensions are: Length: 9”, Width: 5”, Height: 5-3/4”.

 Nestlé Crunch is the name of a chocolate bar made of milk chocolate with crisped rice mixed in, produced by Nestlé. Nestlé Crunch was first introduced to market in 1928. In 1994, Nestlé Crunch was Nestlé’s best-selling candy bar.

AMT’s Chevy “CRUNCH” Monster Truck is all about fun in model building. The base of this kit is the USA-1 Monster Truck. This easy to assemble kit is molded in three colors so no painting is required. The snap-together parts let young or inexperienced hobbyists build a great looking model in a short time. The kit includes a full-color Nestle Crunch sticker sheet to add the finishing touch!

 

For the Modeler: This review covers the Round2 release of the 1/32 scale Nestle Crunch Monster Truck from AMT. The kit is number AMT-911L in the current catalog. This is a Re-release (Re-Pop) of the popular USA-1 Monster Truck in new colors with specific stickers for the Nestle Crunch brand. This kit is also available in multiple versions with other designs. This is a “SNAP-IT” kit made as Skill Level 1 for the Beginning Builder. It is molded in three colors and will need no paint or glue to assemble. There are 21 parts molded in Blue, White, Black and Chrome. It includes Vinyl tires and Metal axles. No engine or interior is supplied. The chassis is a flat base with the frame work as an attachment. The body is solid with only the grille and light bar separate. The tires are hollow and can be mounted all in the proper direction. It does not have Water-slide decals as this is a beginner’s kit the graphics are STICKERS. This would be considered a CURBSIDE kit.
