1940 Ford Standard Coupe 1:25 Scale Monogram Model Kit #85-4371 Review

 Unlike the top of the line Custom coupe the Standard coupe to save on price had fewer amenities and less chrome, but was the better selling of the 40s. The groundbreaking 1940 Ford Coupe set the bar for car production far higher than any previous vehicle. It was one of the first automotive designs to incorporate consumer influences in its design. Its high power, sleek shape, and comfortable styling would influence car design for years to come. Unfortunately, production of and improvement on the two styles of 1940 coupe was severely curtailed by America’s entry into WWII.
For the modeler: This skill level 2 review covers the 1940 Ford Standard Coupe 1:25 Scale Monogram Car Show Series Model Kit #85-4371, and is suitable for intermediate builders.  The kit seems to be based off the ‘40 Ford Custom tooling, but has been modified 
to adequately replicate the Standard Coupe. As with most of Revell’s new kits the molding of the kit is crisp and has no flash, sink marks and very minor mold lines.  One of the great features of the kit is the Ford “Flathead†V8 and at 18 pieces is very detailed. The best thing about the kit 
is the tires and wheels. Each wheel is 6 pieces featuring separate trim rings and “baby moon†hub caps. This allows several combinations of wheels for the kit. I can see where the motor and wheels could be kit-bashed into rat rod projects as well. This kit features 143 parts molded in white with clear and chrome pieces and soft vinyl tires. It includes a highly detailed factory stock flathead V-8, separate frame and rear fenders, and whitewall tire inserts.

The kit does have a couple of draw backs as well though. On page 7 step 6 [front] of the instructions it could be made clearer exactly where to attach the tire rod [part #62] and also step 6 [rear] should have shown you assembling the rear end [parts 64, 65 & 66] before installing them. 
Finally, the wheels, are shown just being snapped onto the assembled chassis, but when I tried to do this both front and rear ends came off as it took substantial force to get them to snap on. To facilitate assembly open up the holes in the rims a little with an hobby knife or put the wheels onto the front/rear ends before installing them to the chassis. The finished dimensions are: Length: 7-9/16″, Width: 2¾”, Height: 2¾”.
Overall, this is a great kit and I would certainly build it again. I would give it 8 out of 10 stars.

Introduced as a concept car in 1992, the Porsche Boxster exploded onto the world stage as a mid-engine two-seater in 1996. The 986, as the Boxster was designated, was powered by a 2.5 liter flat 6 cylinder engine. High performance, a trademark feature of all Porsche models, drove demand for the Boxster high, making it the number one selling Porsche from 1996 to 2005.
For the modeler: This review covers the Revell kit #1984 Porsche Boxster in 1/24 Scale Snap Tite. This is a direct Re-Release (Re-Pop) and has seen multiple box arts over the years. It is a Skill Level 1 for the Entry Level builder and requires no paint or 
glue to assemble. The kit has 37 parts molded in Red, Black, Chrome, Clear and Clear Red and includes Vinyl tires, Metal axles and Screws. The chassis is solid and has all the suspension and motor details molded in. The interior is multiple parts with a tub style interior. It is all Black and can be built and looks nice without painting. The body is Red and although nice does need to be painted to have a quality finish. The glass is crisp and you do have to paint the frosting around the windshield to have a correct build. The tires and rims look good and slide on the metal axles nicely. Overall it is a fairly simplistic build and without paint can be assembled in about a half hour for a novice or less with help. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7-1/8″, Width: 3-1/4″, Height: 2″. Â

1941 Ford Custom Woody 1:25 Scale AMT Model Kit #906 Review

The original concept of the Station Wagon was used by resorts and hotels as a guest transport to and from the train depot, or as a TAXI. By the 40’s many of these “East Coast†wagons were seen used by the more wealthy families with a townhouse in the city who would commute on the weekends to their country place, where an appropriate open car would share the carriage house with an equally well-maintained station wagon. The wagon’s purpose was as a utility vehicle for servants, and it was perhaps used for the occasional picnic or quail hunt. By the 60’s these same vehicles were seen on the “West Coast†being customized and tricked out by the younger beach crowd. And even today this iconic vehicle is a mainstay at car shows all over the country!
For the modeler: This build review covers the Round2/AMT Kit #AMT906 1941 Ford Custom Woody molded in 1/25 scale. The kit is a direct re-release (Re-Pop) from the original molds and has been in seen in multiple box arts over the years. This is a Skill Level 2 
build. Contents consist of over 100 parts molded in White, Clear and Chrome and with Vinyl tires. The build is highly detailed with interior parts for a custom finish. The motor has multiple parts and is very detailed. The body is a solid unit with the wood panels molded in. The chassis is a separate frame and has nicely detailed suspension. There is a full decal sheet with wood panels for the sides. The instruction sheet is typical of the earlier AMT offerings in the 70’s and a bit simplified but easy to follow.
