Ferrari has once again produced another technical achievement with its LaFerrari. LaFerrari (project name, F150) is a limited production hybrid supercar built by Ferrari. The Formula 1 influence is not only reflected in this super road-going sports car by its fantastic design, but also by its almost unbelievable performance. The two-seater is powered by 6.3 liter V12 engine producing 800 hp and augmented by two electric motors with a total of 163 hp using a hybrid technique that Ferrari has developed in Formula 1 racing. Its 12 cylinders are supplied with combustion air by 48 valves and together with the electric motors produce 700 Newton Meters of torque at a modest 6750 rpm. The amazing car reaches 125 mph in less than 7 seconds and 186 mph in just 15 seconds. It then goes further to well over 217 mph. The car and its name were officially unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. Only 499 units will be built and each will cost more than $1.69 million. LaFerrari received no input from Pininfarina, making it the first Ferrari since the Bertone-styled 1973 Dino 308 GT4 not to have Pininfarina bodywork or other styling. This decision is a rare exception to the collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina that began in 1951.

For the modeler: This review covers the LaFerrari kit from Revell. This is Kit #85-4332 and is 1/24 scale. The kit consists of 141 parts molded in White, Chrome, Clear, Vinyl tires and Mesh Screen. Originally a Revell of Germany kit this has been released in 000b Revell USA packaging and is a New Release with Copyrights of 2014 on the chassis. One major difference of note is the US version is molded in White as the Germany version is molded in Red and Gray. Revell rates this as a Skill Level 3 for Advanced Builders. This kit looks a little scary when you first open it. The body is multiple parts and some interior panels are also the exterior panels on the back side. This build is detailed with many intricate parts. The motor is nicely detailed and looks great. The interior is a simple bucket but has tons of Decal details. The suspension is fairly simple and solid. This build has lots of details so take your time. The overall size is: Length: 7-11/16″, Width: 3-5/16″, Height: 1-3/8″.

In 1964 Plymouth developed the Barracuda from the Valiant platform and by 1970 it was ready for it’s third generation styling. The third generation was an all new design designated the E body. The fastback model was dropped leaving only coupe and convertible options, but more engine options were also offered. The most exciting of these options was for the first time you could option the Cuda with a 426 Hemi! The Hemi was a very expensive option [only 652 were ordered], but what an option it was. The Hemi put out 426 gross HP and had that distinctive sound that told everyone what was under the hood. It’s numbers were good as well 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and just under 14 seconds in the quarter mile.

For the Modeler: This review is for the 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda 1:25 Scale Revell 2’n1 Model Kit #85-4268. It is a Skill Level 3”Special Edition” kit for the advanced builder. There are 149 pieces to this kit and very well laid out instructions.  The pieces are 000b molded in molded in white, chrome, clear, and transparent red with black vinyl tires and waterslide decals. This kit, as you would expect from new tooling, is free of flash and very well done. It also appears the body is much more accurate than the previous AAR versions made by Revell. There are some seams on the body that have to be cleaned up, but nothing major.  The kit’s finished dimensions are; Length: 7-1/2″, Width: 3″, Height: 2-1/8.”

The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in dealerships on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year on an all new rear-wheel drive F-body platform and would be available as a 2-door coupe or convertible with a choice of six-cylinder and V8 engines. The first-gen Camaro would last up through the 1969 model year. Almost 80 factory and 40 dealer options, including three main packages, were available. The SS version came with a factory stock 350 cubic inch V8 engine but a 396 cid big-block V8 was also available. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging on the grille, front fenders, gas cap, and horn button. Almost all of the 1967-1969 Camaros were built in the two U.S. assembly plants: Norwood, Ohio and Van Nuys, California. There were also five non-U.S. Camaro assembly plants in countries that required local assembly and content. These plants were located in the Philippines, Belgium, Switzerland, Venezuela, and Peru.

For the modeler: This review is based on the Revell Kit 85-4936 1/25 scale ’67 Camaro SS 2 ‘n 1. The kit is packaged as a “Special Editions” kit and is rated as a Skill Level 3 for advanced builders. The kit consists of 130 parts molded in White, Clear and 000b Clear Red, Chrome, Vinyl tires and Metal axle pins. Revell lists this as an all new mold and tooling, the copyright on the chassis is 2014 and this is a New Release. The build is either as a Race version or Stock version. Only a few minor things change for the race version; a roll bar, different air cleaner, different rims and decals are all that make it a Race Version. The kit has the 396 motor and it is nicely detailed. Aftermarket wiring will really make it stand out. The chassis is basic but well defined. The interior is the standard multi-piece tub with the engine bay Revell has used as of late. The details are crisp and nice on the parts. The body is a clean mold line free design with the front and rear panels and rear spoiler separate, as well as the hood. No optional parts are available. As a race version I personally would source an aftermarket Resin hood. The decals are extensive with all stock badging and Black or White stripes. Some generic race decals are offered also. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7- 5/16″, Width: 2-15/16″, Height: 1-3/4″.
