A while back I did a review of Revell’s newly re-issued Ford Bronco 2-n-1 kit (click here for the Step-by-Step Review). For being an older kit it built up quite nicely. Other than some simplified assemblies, you wouldn’t have known that this was a 30 yr. old tooling. In the review I mentioned how the Bronco could be built up in a number of ways: A police vehicle, a EMS/Rescue first responder truck, Beach Patrol, Mud Bogger, etc. So, I decided to make another Bronco and build it into one of these special variations, giving me “artistic license†to do what I wanted.
For the Modeler: If you’re going to take on a scratch building project like this, just remember to take a lot of measurements, and do a lot of research. Sketch out a few things first to give you a visual of what you are shooting for. I actually had built another camper for this project, but poor planning made it look awkward when it was on the back of the truck, so it was back to the drawing board. I hope this build will inspire you to step out of the norm and do something different!

that came out really nice.looks like you can go on vacation anytime……
One minor correction to the sentence in the step-by-step page for this one, where it says, “Chevy actually came up with a camper similar to this for the K5 Blazer back in the 80’s, it was sold as an option, known as the “Blazer Chaletâ€.
Not actually in the ’80s, it was actually only ’76 – ’77. For more info, please see the web site I now own (but it was entirely created by the prior owner and a pal of his):

We also have a freee-to-join owners & enthusiasts’ forum at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ChevyK5BlazerChalets/ In case anybody wants to build a model of one, joining this forum would be a great idea, as the location of the nearest available one can be found for taking reference photos.
I used to own a Chalet, but the lousy economy forced me to sell it. I bought a Monogram GMC Jimmy with the ‘future’ intent to scratchbuild a camper unit for it, but when I look at the Jimmy body, there’s something just not right about it. You all know how it goes with getting proportions right when the kit makers miss it….
I’ll have to someday also get a Revell Blazer and either an original MPC Blazer or one of those re-pop AMT versions and see which of the bodies is most accurate, and then dive into the project from there.
