Though it’s been said a multitude of ways, except for the Corvette, the 1957 Chevy Bel Air is the most recognizable and iconic of all Chevrolet’s. Many other models bring in the appropriate number of “ooh’s” and “ahh’s,” but it’s the ’57 with its big fins and twin windsplits that make it the most desirable and the one even the most novice of car buffs can recognize. Naturally, it makes an obvious subject for scale modeling. Revell-Germany stepped it up a notch with its 1:12 big scale kit. Did I mention it’s BIG!?! If you’re up for a ‘Big Scale’ challenge, by all means Buy This Kit!

For the Modeler: This is an advanced kit that features over 180 parts decals and this build was done using Model Car Garage’s  photo-etch detail set (#MCG-2283). For the most part this kit is well designed and the suspensions and chassis portions went together just as the instruction show. However, because of the scale and size of the parts, issues regarding heavy flash, ejector pins, and body script, had to be dealt with using automotive methods. Special modifications and processes were used to accommodate the use of photo-etch parts. Removing chrome plating; using Alclad II products; using Tenax 7-R to recreate seat fabric in the seams; using Bare Metal Foil as masking; engine detailing; using Zona brand polishing cloths for window scratch repair and Future for glass treatment; modifications to the license plate frame; are all fully explored in the Step-by-Step review.
