I’m a Buick nut to the core so this kit was a nice addition to my collection. In 1987 the Buick GN (Grand National) was released with a turbocharged 231 V6 engine. Most people wouldn’t think much of a V6, even with a turbo but it was actually faster than any other car GM produced that year, even the Corvette. The special GNX model was more than just a cosmetic improvement; GM engineers beefed up the engine internally and added a few more tweaks to the computerized induction system to garner 276 horsepower and stump-pulling 360 ft lbs of tire-smoking torque. Yes, from a V6! The engineers had coaxed so much power out of this little engine that they had to create a “ladder bar” for the rear suspension to keep things from causing pure chaos!

For the Modeler: This kit has 103 pieces and is molded in white, clear and transparent red plastic and includes molded vinyl tires, basic instructions and a decal sheet. It is rated skill level 2. It’s a nice clean kit but to get that perfect contest build there are some things you must know.  Flash and mold line detail cleanup; careful adhesive and paint selection; window fit issues; shading for detail; detailing the engine bay; examining the decals; choosing the correct seat pattern; adding detail to the dash; front fascia sequence variations and modifications for fit; detailing the front end; color selection for the interior; engine color selection; chassis detailing; replicating the OEM wheels; exterior lighting details and colors; are all fully examined in this 8 page, full-color Step-by-Step review.
