When you talk about drag racing legends, it won’t take long until someone brings up Tom McEwen.  Whether he drove funny cars or a top fuel rail, he held top speed and elapsed time records at many drag strips around the country.  His nickname, Mongoose, was given to him in 1964 after beating rival Don “the Snake” Prudhomme at Lions Dragstrip.  Over a five decade career, Tom remains one of the most influential leaders in the sport of drag racing with safety and the design of the nitro mask.  He also brought large sponsorships to the sport which allowed drivers to make a career and living doing what they love.

For the Modeler: This is a 1/24 scale Monogram kit released through Model King of Tom McEwen’s Mongoose AA Fuel Dragster.  This skill level 2 kit consists of 55 pieces molded in white and chrome.  It also comes with vinyl, non-labeled two-piece racing slicks and two different types of front runner non-labeled tires.  The waterslide decals are bright and crisp and are set up for two paint/decal options.  The direction sheet gives good layout and assembly directions along with key color codes for painting details.  There is also a McEwen figure replica to set in the driver seat. The completed model is 10.5 inches in length. Have fun and keep the glue off the windshield – Tony
