Review and Photos by Tony Gibson Tony Gibson

Back in the 60s, the altered wheel base funny cars were big crowd pleasers.  These cars carried 65% of their weight in the rear end.  This gave them great traction, and gave the fans lots of excitement.  With the high powered engines, they became notorious for wheel stands at the starting line.  These cars also had altered wheelbase fiberglass bodies that gave them a funny look, which is where the name Funny Car came from.  Today, the Funny Car Class is still a fan favorite and are known for running the quarter mile in 5 seconds.

For the Modeler: This is the 1953 Studebaker “Miss Deal” Funny Car 1:25 Scale Revell Model Kit #85-7817. It is a skill level 2 kit molded in white and chrome and has 99 parts.  The two rear drag slicks have Race Master labeling molded in, and the fronts are Pirelli Front Runners and the name is molded into the tire.  The direction sheet is really old school and is easy to follow.  Water slide decals are included along with a sheet of thin, clear plastic for the windshield. Finished dimensions are: Length: 7¾”, Width: 2½”. Have fun and keep the glue off the windshield. – Tony
