Review and Photos by Tony Gibson
In 1968 Tom Daniel designed this Paddy Wagon Show Rod model. It was the 6th model based on his concepts and drawings that he brought to life for Monogram. Tom Daniel is the most notable designer for crazy, fun, whimsical show rods and a favorite of many model builders and collectors. They have truly stood the test of time.
For the Modeler: This is a Monogram Tom Daniel Paddy Wagon 1:24 Scale Model Kit #85-4194 Review. It is a Skill Level 3 kit for the advanced builder. This kit is molded in dark blue, gold chrome and clear with water slide decals. Model consists of 88 parts, 4 generic vinyl tires; two slicks for the back and two treaded tires for the front. It also comes with two pre-decorated police officer characters. Upon opening, this kit looks pretty good. The gold chrome is very bright and clear. The chrome is not too heavy and there is no flashing. The body and chassis look really good, smooth with crisp dies and no flashing. The roof comes textured for a canvas look. The directions are fairly basic and “old school”. Sadly, the tires are generic, with no logo or brand on them, but are correct to the kit and look good. The painted cop figures are awesome and always a plus with these Tom Daniel concept kits. This was a great kit and fun to build. Once again, Monogram Revell, thank you for bringing it back. These whimsical Hot Rods always look nice on the shelf.  The finished kit measures 7″ L x 3 1/4 ” W x 3 3/4 ” H. Have fun and keep the glue off the windshield!Â
