The Cylons are a cybernetic civilization at war with the Twelve Colonies of humanity in the Battlestar Galactica science fiction franchise, in the original 1978 and 1980 series, the 2004 reimagining, as well as the spin-off prequel series, Caprica. The Cylons of the 78/80 series are not the Chrome Robots seen throughout the series, but an advanced reptilian race who created the robots to serve them, maintain their vast empire and to man their military forces in the face of a sudden population drop that eventually led to the Cylons’ extinction, seemingly overnight. The Cylons of the 2004 “Re-imagined” Battlestar Galactica series are fundamentally different from the Cylons of the original 78/80 series. In the new version, the Cylons were created by humans as cybernetic workers and soldiers. As in the original series, the Cylons destroy almost the entire human civilization, chasing a few ship-borne survivors into deep space. Unlike the original series, however, the re-imagined series includes 13 Cylon models that are nearly indistinguishable from human beings.

Moebius Models is a fairly young company and is located in Central Florida. Moebius Models was founded to bring back classic sci-fi and horror model kits to a fan base that has seemingly been forgotten by the major companies. They have become known for high quality kits and subjects ignored by the “Big Model Brands”. From reissues to new subjects, new projects are always in the works! Moebius Models is the sole producer of the licensed Battlestar Galactica merchandise and has released quite a nice collection of related kits. You can find their company at: www.moebiusmodels.com. A special note of thanks to the President of Moebius Models, Frank Winspur, for providing the sample kit for this review.

For the Modeler: This review covers the Moebius Models New Release of the Cylon Centurion figure from Battlestar Galactica molded in 1/6 scale. This is Kit #917 in their current catalog and can be readily found in hobby shops and online direct from Moebius Models. This is rated as a Skill Level 3 for ages 15 and up. The kit includes 109 parts molded in White and Clear. You get no decals and the instruction sheet is very well laid out in book format with both written and pictorial directions. Colors needed are Silver based metal colors only. There are 14 steps to build this kit and time must be taken to let parts completely dry before moving on. The assembly is simplified and progression is straightforward. I highly recommend online research for color information. This kit will create a Brand new looking Centurion but by using basic aging and weathering skills you can add damage and battle scars to create a realistic looking figure. The overall base is: Length: 10”, Width: 6” and the Cylon stands at close to 13” tall.
