Built in 1967, the U.S.S. King was a guided missile destroyer of the Farragut class. It originally served as part of a peacekeeping force to check Communist aggression in the Southeast Asian seas. The later versions serving in Vietnam as the war increased in intensity, the U.S.S King also functioned as a rescue ship for downed pilots. It was a very fast ship with the most sophisticated fire control systems of that time. The ship was manly designed to destroy air targets and was equipped with one twin launcher firing Terrier missiles from the aft deck. It could also carry surface to air, surface to surface, and anti-submarine warfare missiles.  Unfortunately the U.S.S. King was sold for scrap in 1994.
