Ford introduced a redesigned 5th generation Mustang for the 2005 model year at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Codenamed “S-197,” that was based on the new D2C platform. Developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang, a veteran engineer for Ford’s Indy Car program under Mario Andretti, and exterior styling designer Sid Ramnarace, the fifth-generation Mustang’s styling echoes the fastback Mustang models of the late-1960s. Ford’s senior vice president of design, J Mays, called it “retro-futurism.” This design held through the 2014 model year with little changes. The 2014 being a holdover year as the next generation design had been announced for 2015. Since its start in 1964, the GT has been the top of the line performance model of the famous Mustang. Fifty years later, the 2014 is the final year of the 5th generation of Mustangs. The Mustang still provides the best “Bang for the Buck” of any performance car around. The proof is in the performance! Just look at its statistics: 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and running the 1/4 mile in just over 13 seconds straight from the factory!

For the Modeler: This review covers the Revell re-release (Re-Pop) of the 2014 Mustang GT in 1/25 scale. This re-release has been seen in other forms: a pre-painted kit and a Revell of Germany release. This is kit #85-4379 in Revell USA’s current catalog. This 000b version is a Skill Level 4 for the moderate builder and requires paint and glue. You get 60 parts molded in White, Chrome, Clear, Clear Red and Vinyl tires with Metal axles. The Decals are Waterslide with all major markings and dash gauges. The instructions are typical Revell book format in a 15 step build. The kit offers a simple but nicely detailed motor. The chassis is very basic and also well detailed but it needs a lot of paint work to highlight them. The interior is expressive and well designed in a multiple part tub for ease of detailing. The overall body looks good and dimensions look correct. You get a choice of hoods to build, stock or custom. There’s also two sets of rims and tires included: a larger custom set or the stock rims. Decals do offer one custom dual reverse hockey stick style Black stripe. While not considered a basic Snap kit as this requires glue, this kit is marketed and intended for the mid-level builder with some skills in modeling but not quite ready to take on a high skill level kit. Completed dimensions are: Length: 7-1/2″, Width: 3-3/16″, Height: 2-1/8″.
