The Cutlass was a line of automobiles made by Oldsmobile. The Cutlass began as a unibody compact car, but saw its greatest success as a body-on-frame intermediate car. Introduced in 1961 as the top trim level in Olds’ compact F-85 line, over the years the Cutlass name accumulated great brand equity, and became one of the most popular nameplates in the industry in the 1970s. By the 1980s, Oldsmobile was using the Cutlass as a sub-marque, with numerous vehicle lines bearing the name simultaneously. These included the Cutlass Calais compact, the midsize Cutlass Ciera, the Cutlass Cruiser station wagon, and the premium midsize Cutlass Supreme. After the Cutlass line was split between the front-wheel drive A-body Cutlass Ciera and the rear-wheel drive G-body Cutlass Supreme in 1982, GM again offered a limited-edition Hurst/Olds – it was the 15th anniversary of the first Hurst/Olds introduced in 1968. The Hurst Lightning Rod floor shifter was introduced in the ’83 H/O. For its 15th Anniversary Edition, the ’83 H/O came only in black with silver rocker panels. Chrome 15″ wheels fitted Goodyear GT tires, and a power bulge hood and rear spoiler gave the car a purposeful look. A modified version of Oldsmobile’s 307 CID V8 was installed, along with 3.73 gears and Hurst’s radical Lightning Rods shifter. Dual exhausts with rumbling mufflers meant there was no mistaking the H/O for a garden variety Cutlass. A new style “Hurst/Olds” emblem was introduced, and red and silver stripes separated the black and silver paint. Demand for the car was very strong. Originally, 2500 units were scheduled to be produced, but Olds had to up that number to 3001 because of high demand.

For the Modeler: This review covers the ALL NEW release of the ’83 Hurst Olds by Revell molded in 1/25 scale. The kit is all new tooling and has no previous releases. Revell rates this as a Skill Level 4 and it requires glue and paint for assembly. This is not 1 a high parts count kit with only 94 parts but it is very well detailed. It is molded in White, Chrome, Clear, Clear Red, Vinyl tires and has Metal axle pins. The decals are waterslide and it contains a Book style instruction sheet. The motor is nicely detailed and aftermarket wires and details will add to a contest winner quite easily. The chassis is multiple parts but simple to assemble, the overall detail is good. The interior is well detailed and multiple parts for ease of detailing. Some aftermarket goodies will go a long way to winning a contest here! The body is straight and clean with glass that installs from the outside. Overall assembly is easy and straightforward most of the body is assembled prior to painting. The decals are full with all body stripes, interior dash gauges and body details. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7-13/16″, Width: 3″, Height: 2-3/16″.
