“Tony Nancy Top Eliminator” “Nancy, Best Engineered And Competition Eliminator At Internationals”!      Headlines like these are well-known to Tony Nancy, one of America’s top drag racers and upholsterers, from Sherman Oaks, California.  In the past 17 years, Tony Nancy has built and raced twenty-seven cars, five of which have borne the designation “22Jr.” All of these cars have provided racing at its vest or the thousands of spectators near and far who have seen Nancy pilot his sleek machines down the strip in record time. Two of Tony’s most popular cars are his “22Jr” Buick-powered Roadster and his “22Jr” Plymouth Super Stock-powered Dragster. Both of these cars have been featured on the cover of “Hot Rod” magazine, and both have won national drag racing awards.

Nancy’s `23 ”T” Roadster won the Competition Eliminator Award at the 1963  Winternationals with a top speed of  16483 MPH, in addition to taking the class award.  His Plymouth Super Stock-powered “AA” Dragster has held the National AA Dragster class record, and also the Drag News number one gas dragster position. This machine, even without a complete body shell, was honored with the title, “Best Engineered Car” at the `63 Winternationals. Number one in performance and number one in appearance go hand-in-hand with these two top cars by Tony Nancy.

For the modeler: This review covers the re-release of the Tony Nancy 22 Jr. dual car kit in 1:25 Scale as  Revell Model Kit #85-1224 that was originally issued in 1963. There isn’t a skill level given on the kit but I considered it an intermediate to advanced 020 builder kit, although the box states it is an easy builder. In comparison to today’s kits it can be a little challenging to build, but patience and test fitting continually will create a very clean and nice model. Both kits consist of 80+ parts molded in Silver and Clear with Chrome Parted parts and Black Vinyl Tires. There is some flashing and mold marks that need to be removed before assembly. The JR22 Dragster model has a Tommy Ivo chassis and a 426 Plymouth Super Stock V-8 that can be seen since the body shell if you follow the instructions and not glue the body halves together, although on this build they were glued together in the end (just my preference). The second kit is of JR22 `23 `T` Roadster model and it has a Kent Fuller chassis, Cal Automotive body and a Blown Buick V-8. Both kits come with period correct water slide decals.
